Welcome Message from the Conference Chair

On behalf of the local organizing committee, it is my honor to cordially invite you all to the 13^th Asian Conference on Diarrheal Disease and Nutrition (ASCODD). In its 13^th year, the ASCODD will be welcomed for the first time in the Philippines and we are more than pleased to announce that this event will take place in Tagaytay City, a National Honor Awardee for Nutrition.

The Section of Infectious and Tropical Disease in Pediatrics (INTROP) and the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, both from the Department of Pediatrics at the Philippine General Hospital, University of the Philippines Manila, and the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics-Philippines (ISTP-Philippines), have joined forces as co-organizers to bring together scientists, researchers, physicians, academicians, healthcare professionals and decision makers in the field of infectious disease and gastroenterology from around the world to discuss emerging issues and exchange ideas on current research and clinical topics on diarrheal disease and nutrition.

As initiated by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) and since its inception and first meeting held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1981, the ASCODD has continuously attracted outstanding attendance and we are expecting this 2012’s meeting to be no exception and continue this momentum to be a great success.

Scheduled from 10-12 January 2012, the 13^th ASCODD has been designed to provide an innovative and comprehensive platform for a lively and interactive sharing of ideas and knowledge in the aim of re-focusing and redoubling the efforts to prevent and manage diarrhea, coupled with preventive nutrition interventions, in the Asia Pacific region and beyond. The 13^th ASCODD will invite many distinguished international speakers who are expected to participate and provide insights and expert opinion on a wide range of topics centered on the theme “Towards Health and Wealth in a Changing World”.

I hope that you will enjoy the 13^th ASCODD and that your interaction with your colleagues from different countries will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas and will be personally rewarding. I also trust that you will enjoy your visit to the breathtaking and serene city of Tagaytay in January 2012.
